The Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations at Harvard
University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in MODERN
CHINESE HUMANITIES, expected to begin on July 1, 2013. We are particularly
interested in scholars who combine strengths in film and/or media studies
with interdisciplinary range. We would also welcome applicants whose
research encompasses other areas of modern Chinese humanities, including
cultural and literary studies, Sinophone studies, and thought. All
applicants should possess a high level of proficiency in Chinese.
The successful candidate should demonstrate the capacity for excellence in
teaching as well as research, and will be expected to teach a range of
offerings related to Chinese humanities, from introductory undergraduate
lecture courses through graduate seminars.

The Department of Asian Languages and Cultures at Macalester College
announces an opening for a tenure-track position in Chinese, rank open,
beginning Fall, 2013. Applicants should have a Ph.D. at the time of
application in the field of Chinese literature, linguistics, or related
subjects, possess native or near-native proficiency in Chinese, and
demonstrate ability and commitment to teach all levels of language.
Scholarly promise, college teaching experience, an interdisciplinary
approach to the teaching of Chinese culture, and knowledge of current
pedagogical methodologies are desirable. The teaching responsibilities
will involve both language and literature or culture courses.
We seek applicants who can contribute to the broader intellectual life of
the College, which may include involvement in such activities as
cross-listing courses with other departments, first year courses or

Connecticut
Job Posting Title: Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in
Chinese 20th Century Literary Studies, Cultural Studies or Applied
Linguistics.
Job Summary: The Department of Literatures, Cultures and Languages at the
University of Connecticut invites applications for two (2) new positions
in Mandarin Chinese Literature, Language and Culture beginning Fall 2013.
One position is at the rank of Assistant Professor. The other position is
open rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor).
Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: PhD in hand by May 20, 2013;
native or near-native proficiency in Chinese and English; strong
commitment to research and scholarly publications; evidence of teaching
excellence, experience teaching Chinese at all levels.
Preferred Qualifications: a. film and media studies and Chinese film
culture; b. gender studies/politics; c. digital humanities; d. applied
linguistics; e. Language Across the Curriculum; f. experience teaching at
the American university/college level.
Appointment Terms: Both are full-time, nine-month positions, with rank
and salary commensurate with qualifications. The Assistant Professor
position is tenure-track. The open rank position is
tenure-track or eligible for tenure at hire.
These positions are at the main campus in Storrs but incumbents may work
at the campuses located at Avery Point, Hartford, Stamford, Torrington,
Waterbury, and/or any other University location.

Asian Studies. The Chair is named in honor of David Dean, a distinguished
career foreign service officer and former Chairman of the American
Institute in Taiwan.
